IRL decided to go on the streets of downtown KL to find and feed the homeless, and get their perspective and views on the upcoming #GE15.
The homeless man we met was in agony and pain – he refused our food and instead asked us for help calling the ambulances.
Looking at his various severe injuries, we decided to call the ambulance, and while waiting for it to arrive, we asked him for his story.
This is what he told us.
He used to live in Banting. He is 38 years old, had lost his job, and has been homeless for a while. Both his parents died before he reached the age of 10. His father died in 1993, and his mother died in 1992.
He does not have his IC, however he could recite the digits to us.
The homeless man explains that he has not been able to eat anything for 2 days. He had been puking and shitting blood, which also caused him to develop an infection in his legs. He was also struggling to breathe while lying down facing the sky.
He had been calling for help from random strangers, but no one heeded his calls. And since he could not walk, he has been lying down there for the past 2 days.
“He shared that he liked Najib because Najib used to help people like him.”
He was also denied entry to a homeless shelter and wishes there were more of those.
We called on some passing DBKL cleaners to help us assist in sitting the man up against the wall, but not before explaining that the man had already been around there for over a week. They have seen him drinking at the side of buildings at 8pm for many days.
They also revealed that in the past 2 months, they’d found 3 dead bodies of drunken homeless people in the same area. They would call the police, and the police would take the bodies away.
Thankfully, the ambulance arrived by then and, after verifying his condition, decided to take him to the hospital for treatment.
IRL wishes the best of luck with him and his future life.
