In recent viral news, M’sians are selling the commemorative Apple store bags for up to RM 8,888 on Carousel.
This trend has inspired one sarcastic listing by seller nicosuk, who threw in a Toyota Vellfire as a free gift together with the now-infamous Apple tote bag.
“Avoid queuing for over 20 hours for this exclusive gold-ink-signed, limited edition first release,” advertised the seller in the description.
“Show off to your friends and family that you’re on-trend and in the latest fashion,” it continued with cute emojis.
“Comes included with a Vellfire!” it added, almost as an afterthought.

The tote bags were originally given to Apple fans for free.
The Apple tote bags were originally given out last weekend on 22nd June 2024 to commemorate the launch of Malaysia’s first Apple flagship store in Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) shopping mall.
The bags were intended as a free gift for early birds who queued for hours to get into the store, with one superfan from China camping outside as early as 11 pm on the preceding Friday, according to social media app XiaoHongShu.

But knowing Malaysians’ keen business sense, within hours of the launch, online marketplaces like Carousel were flooded with listings of the white cloth bag.
Now the bag has become something of a collector’s item amongst Apple aficionados, with sellers pricing their bags for anywhere from RM150 to as high as RM8,888 (USD 1,888).

Listings for the bag start from RM150 and can go up to a whopping RM10,000. Packaged in a sleek square box with a 3D Apple logo on the cover, the admittedly rather stylish tote bag also includes the word “JOM” embossed in gold.
Netizens were outraged over the exorbitant prices.
“These items are being sold with sky high prices, when in reality it is the free tote bag Apple store gave out on its first opening day in Malaysia. So ashamed of Malaysians’ behavior,” commented an X user.
“Willing buyer and willing seller aside, whoever would pay more than RM30 for a basic tote bag are dumb as rocks,” said another.
The viral news has inspired creative listings like the aforementioned one with the Vellfire, while another joke listing included a fake signature of Steve Jobs, which is apparently going for RM15,000.
The listing received some backlash for making fun of the deceased founder of Apple, to which it responded with “Some people can’t take a joke”.
Is the Apple Tote Bag really worth more than RM30 at most?
