A young boy’s quiet devotion to his visually impaired parents has captured the hearts of Malaysians after a famous Penang eatery shared his story online.
A family that keeps coming back
Nasi Kandar Sulaiman (NKS) shared on Facebook that the boy and his parents, both of whom are blind, had made the journey from Kuala Lumpur to Penang for the second time and visited the restaurant for a meal. The family had come once before the previous year, and on both occasions NKS covered their bill using donor funds without telling them in advance. The family only found out when it was time to pay.
“They were very happy,” the post noted.
What the staff observed
What moved the restaurant was not just the family’s return but how the boy conducted himself throughout the visit. With a full restaurant around him, he attended to both parents throughout the meal without showing a trace of frustration or embarrassment.
“He didn’t show any anger or complain at all. Taking care of (differently-abled) parents is not easy; it is a very big challenge. But this young brother takes care of them with love,” NKS wrote.
A reminder to others
The eatery used the moment to say something broader, pointing to the boy as an example at a time when many children struggle to be seen in public with parents who are elderly or unwell. NKS described him as someone who values both his parents deeply and urged others to look to him as a model of how children should treat their parents.
