A video of a shouting match that resulted in a fistfight in CondoVilla Tampoi Utama, Johor has gone viral.
In the video, a Chinese uncle was filmed hollering and attacking an apartment grill door.
Clad in a white shirt and slippers, he appeared to be completely unhinged as he hit the grill repeatedly with a long wooden stick.
Based on eyewitness accounts, it is said that he is angry with the residents due to the constant noise coming from their apartment.
The angry uncle threw and broke his neighbor’s shoe rack in a rage
Responding to the sudden assault on their home and ears, the Indian family approached the door and started yelling at him angrily to leave.
The two parties traded insults while continuing to yell at the top of their lungs, creating a level of noise that some say could be heard from across the causeway.
At one point, the wife sprayed water at him, as if he was a misbehaving dog. Far from deterring his attack, this move only served to make him even angrier.
In a blind rage, the Chinese uncle picked up the shoe rack in the corridor and threw it at their grill door, causing sandals and slippers to fly.
As if to drive home his point, he hit the shoe rack with his stick until it broke. Approaching the grill doors again, he thrust his stick in between the grill bars like a spear.
Well-meaning neighbors attempted to intervene, but failed
Responding to the loud noises, neighbors started to come out from their homes to investigate the source of the ruckus.
The good neighbors tried to break up the fight, calling for calm and to have a polite discussion.
Neighbor 1, an Indian man in red shorts and a blue towel attempted to talk to the Chinese uncle.
Meanwhile, Neighbor 2, a Malay man wearing a dark green shirt and long track pants bravely stood between the two parties and attempted to separate them.
However, both parties continued unabated, screaming insults at each other with even more forceful yelling, with both wives joining in.
The Indian neighbor threw the shoe rack back at the Chinese uncle
At this point, the Indian man inside the apartment seemingly reached a breaking point and began to unlock the grill door. His wife attempted to stop him, but he stepped out into the corridor with grave intent.
The neighbors looked on in horror as he picked up the shoe rack and threw it bodily at the Chinese uncle.
Luckily, the other Indian man in red shorts nimbly grabbed the shoe rack in mid air and held it away from the two parties before it could deal any real damage.
However, the Indian resident was unstoppable now and lunged at the Chinese uncle. The Chinese uncle threw a punch at him, but it simply glanced off.
The Indian neighbor shot back with a right hook that landed squarely in the Chinese uncle’s face, causing him to fall down in a daze.
Unfortunately, the video is cut short there. It is unclear if the police were called to the scene and if both parties were taken into custody for questioning. The fate of the Chinese man is unknown.

Netizens’ reactions condemn the show of violence
Netizens were shocked and dismayed at such an unnecessary display of violence, with some calling for calm and to settle things peacefully.
“Be calm and talk things out like adults,” says one top comment.
“Whatever the issue is, it is wrong to destroy other people’s property or use violence to resolve things,” shared another.
However, some comments speculated that the old man probably reached the end of his patience and lost his cool.
“I’m not racist but Indians are the group who are the noisiest. What if the man had already made all the complaints to the police and management but the noise hadn’t stopped?” Said one top commenter.
This prompted at least 50 replies telling him he should not generalize an entire race because of one person’s actions.
“Although noisy neighbors are annoying, the Chinese uncle could be charged in court because he brought a weapon and attacked the Indians in their home,” pointed out another netizen.
Some commenters chose to look at the bright side by approaching the topic with wry humor.
“Now this is really what it means to be 1 Malaysia. When Chinese and Indians fight, Malays come in to settle things peacefully.”
“It’s heartwarming to see that even when Chinese and Indians are fighting, they use Bahasa Malaysia to settle their differences.”
Address Issues And Conflicts Peacefully And Respectfully
This regrettable incident highlights the importance of considering the feelings of your neighbors from different cultural backgrounds.
It is a timely reminder, with the upcoming state elections, that conflicts can only be resolved when we approach them with a spirit of humility and the willingness to listen to the perspective of others.
When facing conflict with a neighbor, we must avoid becoming angry and instead work together to find a common ground.
In this case, the situation got out of hand, resulting in a regrettable and avoidable physical tussle.
We must respect our neighbors and report any concerns to the appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.
