Back in April of 2022, Mogan Subramaniam had his story shared on a few news outlets to talk about his living conditions and the effort that he had to put in just to survive. Back then, Mogan was selling fire extinguishers for a living, but he has since stopped when his motorcycle (his only mode of transportation) broke down.

Here is his story!
Representing Malaysia In The Paralympic Games
I was an ex-athlete at the Malaysian Paralympic Games, where I won both gold and silver medals in powerlifting. I was the champion in Malaysia and the runner-up in Paralympic Powerlifting worldwide.

Struggling Just To Get By
I am living on my own in a rental home that costs RM650 per month. I don’t have a wife or children to support me.
I am unable to get any loan from the banks to get a car for my business or to get my home back, and I have no one who could help me get a loan either. There is no one to be my guarantor if I were to apply for any loans.

Still, I greatly appreciate the Malaysians who have shown their care and support for me. It warms my heart as I know that they are struggling too, yet they are able to help people like me who are in need.
Looking For Help Where I Can
While I appreciate the help that Malaysians have given me, I also want to focus on getting any kind of aid from the government.

I received the card that lets me know that they have received my letter, but they did not send any mail back in response to my mail, nor did they ask for any clarification about my situation.
Following the federal level election last year, I was told by the official secretary of Bukit Gantang’s parliament to reach out to YB Dato’ Syed Abu Hussin about my issues and provide documented proof of my struggles in a letter.
So I did, and they sent a lady to come interview me at my home. She informed me that my documents had been received, yet it’s already been a year and there has been no update since.
And that’s what bothers me most…
