I studied Journalism and currently work for a Russian company as a digital marketing executive.
My work can be done remotely, hence why I am here in Malaysia – but it’s also because I am unable to go back to my home country of Russia due to the war. The Ukrainian and Russian armies are actually engaged in conflict in my hometown.
I don’t care who wins – but whatever it is, please get it over with fast. Not only that, but the war is affecting us all globally—just look at the rise in the prices of goods.I chose to live in Malaysia as I had many Russian friends who were living here and urged me to stay here. So, I decided to move from Egypt, where I had lived for the last 2 years.
It’s been 6 months so far, and I’ve tried some Malaysian foods like Nasi Lemak but I still prefer plain pasta and chicken.
I also love and prefer Malaysia over Egypt because the people here generally keep to themselves.
“Have Malaysian men tried to ask me out? (Laughs). Not at all! I don’t really think about it. I think about retirement and I think about reading (books) more.”
Compared to other countries that I used to live in, I don’t really get bothered by strangers or men. In other countries, people would always come to me and start talking, asking questions, or engaging in conversations.
Here, I get to relax with my friends or alone and not be worried that anyone will come to bother me. I think maybe it’s because Malaysia has a lot more foreigners and expats living here, so the locals are used to them.
Generally, I like being alone and I like reading.
What 2022 Held For Me
This year, I got into reading about children’s psychology.
I learned how communicating with children can be made better by treating them not only as equals, but also by having them teach me things! For example, earlier today I was sitting at a Starbucks, and a child came up to me. She tried talking and playing with me, so I tried to gain her trust by having her teach me so she felt more comfortable opening up to me!
She also seemed happier, so that was cute.
I really enjoy talking to children, despite not having one of my own. I’m at that age where a lot of my friends have children already.Although, I don’t think this is something I would want to make a living out of, it is more of an interest than an ambition.
What I’m Hoping From 2023
My hope for 2023 is that Russia will be more stable. I do not have any intention to stay in Malaysia as a permanent resident as I have a family back in Russia.
I really hope that there will be some sort of solution and that the war will end soon. I’m very tired of travelling. I do wish to go back to Russia. My advice to people is that they should try to spend more time with their family. Family is very important.
And I want to resolve the problems I have back home, whether they’re financial or family issues. I miss home.
