A post shared on Threads by someone claiming to be a relative of a Malaysian student has raised concern online, after she alleged the teenager was physically punished at home following her SPM results.
What allegedly happened after results day
The student, said to be from a boarding school, had just collected her results when the situation unfolded. According to the relative, her father became upset upon learning she had scored fewer than five As and allegedly caned her shortly after.
A daughter who shut down
In the aftermath, the teenager was described as withdrawing completely.
She stayed in her room and stopped eating, refusing to come out.
It was her mother who eventually stepped in, arranging for her daughter to be sent to stay with her grandfather.
The reason, the relative said, was simple: she was afraid it would happen again.
“The situation is under control for now. I feel so sorry for her. I cried when I heard about it,” the relative wrote.
The relative’s own story
The post carried weight because the person sharing it had lived through something similar. She revealed that she too had scored below five As in her own SPM and was scolded by her parents, though never physically punished.
She went on to do well in STPM. It was that contrast, she implied, that made what happened to the teenager feel so unnecessary and excessive.
Netizens respond
The post drew significant reactions online, with many expressing concern for the girl’s wellbeing. One commenter cut straight to the point, asking what grade the father himself had scored in his own SPM.
