A 17-year-old boy has lodged a police report at the Kajang police station after allegedly being assaulted by a Grab driver at the end of a ride, over a car door that shut too loudly.
A ride that went wrong
The teen had booked a ride from Saujana Palma Residence to Kajang Perdana.
According to his police report, the driver drove past the intended drop-off point and refused to reverse despite the teen’s repeated requests, as there were stray dogs at the spot where the car had stopped.
“I asked the driver to reverse as there were many stray dogs at the spot where he stopped. However, he ordered me to get out of the vehicle right away.”
What happened at the door
The incident took place on Wednesday, March 25. The teen complied and got out of the car.
When he closed the door, it shut loudly. The driver then got out and physically assaulted him.
“When I got out and closed the door, it shut loudly. The driver came out and hit me on the head, face and body.”
The teen sustained injuries to his left thumb and cheek after falling during the alleged assault.
Driver suspended, company responds
Following enquiries from FMT, Grab Malaysia confirmed the driver has been suspended. The company also stated it is working with the authorities and assisting the teen to ensure a thorough investigation takes place.
“We are sorry the passenger had this experience on our platform. We uphold a strict code of conduct for both our driver-partners and users, and maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards violations of the code,” the company said.
