Depression knows no boundaries. It can happen to any Tom, Dick and Harry, especially when everyone is putting their life on line to meet the demanding social’s expectation. According to law of nature, every life begins with Birth and ends with Death, but what makes us different from other living being, is that we can make Choices throughout our lifetime. All we need to do is to make our choices wisely.
Stay or Leave The Toxic Environment / Person
I used to work in a big company and enjoyed attractive perks but recently I took a leap of faith to quit my job after battling with severe depression due to toxic working environment. The rule of thumb is if you can’t change your environment, change the environment. Thus, I left the company for a better job but with lower salary. Just my two cent, you should never choose your job over your mental health. If you don’t like where you are, move. You are not a tree. The above mentioned principle also apply to your relationship with others.
“If you put bananas and money in front of monkeys, monkeys will choose bananas, because monkeys do not know that money can buy a lot of bananas. In reality, if you put money and health in front of people, people tend to choose money because too many people do not know that health can bring more money and happiness.” – Jack Ma
Giving Back To Society
Just like many other introverts, the struggle with social interaction is real. I always found comfort in solitary, but during the darkest hour, reality hits hard when I realized that no one was there to lend a shoulder to cry on. I believe that is how depression slowly creeps in to the lives of many people, and drive them to the brink of suicide. My life took a new turn when I stepped out of my own little world and started to dedicate my life to serve society. It all started off with my first volunteering job in an animal shelter during weekends. At times, I participated in strays rescue missions to reach out stray animals in distress. Since then, volunteering have become a lifestyle choice that serve as driving force for me to live life purposefully.
“You make a living by what you get, You make a life by what you give” – Winston Churchill

In a nutshell, “if you want to be happy, tie it to a goal, not to people or things “- by Albert Einstein. Imagine if you are attending your own funeral surrounded by family and friends, what do you want your loved ones to remember about you? What legacy do you want to leave behind? Every day is a new beginning. It is never too late to change the course of your life.
